Born To Sing Making A Difference….Flynn’s Fund

November 20th, 2014 by Deb Saville

Deb Saville and Martin Meader, co-founders of Born to Sing would like to thank all the singers and audience from the local suburbs who sang at the Dare to Dream concert on sat 15 November.

Put Your Hands Together Please1Deb asked the audience to CLAP, CHEER and DIG DEEP.

A MASSIVE $ 3, 286 was raised to assist Flynn….who has been diagnosed with a rare form of venous malformation, causing his blood pressure to be very unstable and gives him huge pain in his head and legs. Flynn is only one and has already lost a kidney through complications. Flynn’s family live in Kinross, though are currently spending most days and nights at PMH and they said that the generosity of the choir was overwhelming and that the funds raised will help with all the costs associated with having to be at the hospital every day and Flynn’s ongoing care.

You too can join this fantastic community-minded singing group- Call Martin on 0433 653 219.

Let's Get Jess on StageThe concert was a huge success with two singers with disabilities sharing their dreams with the audience who were inspired…Jess Butt lives locally in Currambine and has started her own coffee business. She inspires everyone as well as being a comedienne, always willing to smile and share a laugh and a joke!

Jess Garrett has recently moved into her own house to be more independent and she travels from Vic park to sing each Wednesday. She overcame her nerves to deliver a very powerful message about how it feels to have an Acquired Brain Injury and the hard work needed to regain skills such as walking, talking and budgeting. She urged parents to always seek medical attention so that infection can be dealt with quickly as an unattended ear infection caused her disabilities.

Flynn's Fund3Flynn’s family would like to say a BIG THANKS to all Born To Sing-ers who contributed to the Flynn Fund.

What Happens When People DARE To DREAM?.

August 18th, 2014 by Deb Saville

Dare To Dream-Being Person centred THANKS to the staff at WA  Blue Sky….they dropped some of their ‘limiting beliefs’ and began to see that many, many things that they thought impossible…are actually quite achieveable.  And as a result, in a very short space of time, they are changing dramatically the lives of the people with disabilities that they work with!

Here’s some words from Roy Smith…Executive Officer….

From: Roy Smith [mailto:eo@wabluesky.com.au]
Sent: Thursday, 16 May 2013 2:22 PM
To: Deb Saville
Subject: Testimonial

In 2011 WA Blue Sky underwent its first Quality Management Framework assessment using the new methodology and outcome measures.  The results suggested several ‘Opportunities for Service Improvement’ (OSI’s).  Since that time the organisation has explored the concept of ‘Person Centred Planning’ (PCP) as a means of implementing the suggested OSI’s and has undertaken training in this approach to service planning and delivery through a number of sources.

Recently several staff attended the ‘Dare to Dream’ course delivered by Deb Saville as part of our strategy to implement PCP.  The feedback was extremely positive with staff reporting that the content opened their eyes to possibility for themselves, and particularly, for people who have a disability.  As a result of the feedback from staff we have decided to have all staff undertake the course so that the opportunity to ‘Dare to Dream’ is embraced as a fundamental tenet of service design and delivery for the whole organisation.  This will enable service users to ‘Live a life of Choice’ based on their own decisions.

And all I can say, Roy, is THANKS for the opportunity to live MY dream of Making A Difference!

Are You Ready for this Thought Provoking Movie? And to Make A Difference for our Indigenous Australians?

July 19th, 2011 by Deb Saville

Deb and Linz have been to Darwin coaching a group of Indigenous Leaders and their final trip is at the end of July.  They went to a theatre production to learn about Aboriginal perspectives on the Australian justice system…and have also been introduced to some very confronting politics in the Northern Territory.

Please Learn About UsTwo filmakers have captured the issues and released the  the story of ‘Our Generation’.  Deb and Linz have been so touched (and enlightened) by this movie and their experiences meeting the people affetcted by the NY policies, that they are organising a Community Screening.  “Our belief is that every Australian should see this movie – to raise awareness of the issues affecting Indigenous Australians….and of course, by coming to support this screening part proceeds will be donated to help Indigenous causes.

Deb is negotiating with the City of Vincent and Hale School about showing the movie….Watch this space!
