Are You Ready for this Thought Provoking Movie? And to Make A Difference for our Indigenous Australians?

July 19th, 2011 by Deb Saville

Deb and Linz have been to Darwin coaching a group of Indigenous Leaders and their final trip is at the end of July.  They went to a theatre production to learn about Aboriginal perspectives on the Australian justice system…and have also been introduced to some very confronting politics in the Northern Territory.

Please Learn About UsTwo filmakers have captured the issues and released the  the story of ‘Our Generation’.  Deb and Linz have been so touched (and enlightened) by this movie and their experiences meeting the people affetcted by the NY policies, that they are organising a Community Screening.  “Our belief is that every Australian should see this movie – to raise awareness of the issues affecting Indigenous Australians….and of course, by coming to support this screening part proceeds will be donated to help Indigenous causes.

Deb is negotiating with the City of Vincent and Hale School about showing the movie….Watch this space!

Born To Sing Loves Across The Land…with Success!

April 14th, 2011 by Deb Saville

Present The Cheque (10)Our generous singers practiced, sold tickets, baked cakes and rehearsed some more.

They performed to a packed audience in the Quadrangle of Applecross Senior High School.

They sold their cakes.  And we had two VIP guest speakers, one lady who had been evacuated during the fires…and another who was volunteering with Roleystone Bush Fire Service at the time….their stories touched everyone’s hearts…and pockets.  People donated very generously to our worthy cause.

All our efforts were rewarded when we were able to present a cheque to the Mayor of Melville for $14,767 to help those affected by the recent bush fires in Perth.

We also collected $ 5,000 worth of household goods and delivered two trucks full of items to help one family turn their rented house into a home.           One Truck

Born to Sing certainly lives up to its vision of Making A Difference!

Born To Sing Helps Save the Whales

November 7th, 2010 by Deb Saville

Born To Sing Supports the Sea Shepherd

Born To Sing were able to live their vision this week and Make A Difference to whales, dolphins, blue fin tuna and other sea creatures.  It was very interesting to learn that more people are killed per year by ostriches (9) than by sharks (5).  And more people are also killed by a soda-pop machine falling on them than by sharks.  I forget the number!   Here we are at the airport handing over a donation from Born To Sing towards the Sea Shepherd Campaign ‘No Compromise’.  We sang at the Sea Shepherd Fundraiser and were inspired by Paul Watson’s passion to save whales and other marine life.  What a charismatic speaker – and yet such a humble man. We wish Paul and the crew of volunteers luck in their next venture to the whale sanctuary in Antarctica and hope that it puts a stop to whaling.  We were proud of BTS generosity and donated $500 to the cause.  Our repetoire of course included ‘Sailing’!

Born To Sing Buys Swags To Make A Difference

September 10th, 2010 by Deb Saville

Living The Vision - Make A Difference!

Living The Vision - Make A Difference!

Born To Sing were invited to sing at Fremantle Town Hall for Homeless People’s Week.  We were moved by their plight, realising that in this day and age homelessness can strike all sectors of our community through a change in personal circumstances, such a job loss or some disaster.  A newly designed swag, made in South Australia would at least provide shelter, warmth and a place to keep one’s possessions.  The generosity of Born To Sing raised $1,275.  This will provide 18 swags…warming the cockles of some hearts at least this winter.

Making A Difference so a Child Can Experience Music!

May 20th, 2010 by Deb Saville

Mal Hood's Love of music lives on!It was a sad day indeed when Mal Hood, a member of Born To Sing, passed away suddenly last year. We collected over $800 for his family.  His widow, Alice, wanted to use the money to keep Mal’s love of music alive somehow…and we all discussed buying an instrument that could be used in perpetuity by a child each year who otherwise would not be able to afford this experience.  Alice is pictured here with Bruce Herriman, Principal of the School of Instrumental Music, Maylands who gratefully received the trombone, played a tune and promised that it would be put to good use by the pupils.

MAD Kenya Project

February 23rd, 2010 by Deb Saville

Turning 50 and wanting to Make A Difference I decided to forgo pressies and cards and ask all those people who have touched my life in some way to join me in two events…a picnic and/or a catered dinner.   Having a Personal Chef cook for us, tidy away and do the dishes was fantastic.  We shared fun and food together…Kenya-Houseand realise how lucky we are to do so in one of the best countries in the world.  Giving blessings of gratitude for everything we experience was easy for this group of like-minded friends who all gave so generously to the MAD Kenya Project.  A BIG thanks to all my friends, family and colleagues who came to my birthday celebrations and donated towards buying a house for a family in Kenya.  We did it!   Africa6

Making A Difference in Kenya

February 2nd, 2010 by Deb Saville

For my 50th Linz organised a picnic at Mullaloo Beach for friends old and new.  Feeling blessed by a life of abundance, I asked for no presents – just their presence…and any money that was going to be spent was collected to buy a house for a family in Kenya.  THANKS to all who came to share the day…and to everyone who gave so generously.
