Games Can Teach You about Yourself
August 21st, 2009 by Deb Saville
Deb is presenting a series of Brain Friendly workshops with staff who work with people with disabilities. Thier job is to enrich their life experiences. So when they played the games that Deb introduced in the ‘Behaviour Management : Whose Behaviour is Challenging?’ many were surprised to identify some limiting thoughts, beliefs and behaviours. Once identified participants could then work out an Action Plan to overcome these and move into ‘possibility thinking’ – thereby truly being in a place to enrich the lives of their clients!

Do you go shopping and find yourself thinking, “I don’t really need this”?

Then maybe it’s time to look at whether you have ‘enough stuff’.
And how you are using your time – does it serve you – or could you be happier?

Story Reading Well Received
August 20th, 2009 by Deb Saville
At the Born To Sing Concert Deb read out one of the stories that will be included in the Make A Difference – Sing! book. It was the story of one of our singers who has overcome not one but three deaths in her family and how joining the choir and singing every week has ‘unfrozen’ her heart. The rest of the audience were moved to tears and Deb acknowledges all those who are sending their strories and poems in. If you have a story you’d like considered for the book , please follow the Make A Difference-SING!-Guidelines-May09 and complete the MAD-Consent Form
Free Concert WOW!s Family & Friends
August 20th, 2009 by Deb Saville
On 12th August Born To Sing held it’s 2nd free concert. It was great to see
the rehearsal hall packed to the rafters with family and friends enjoying the perfomance of a variety of music styles including Fly Away, One Quiet Night the extremely difficult Blue Bayou Medley, Standing in the Need of Prayer, I Shall Be Released, Largo, and our two original songs Born To Sing and Make A Difference. The performances by small ensembles of Good Night Sweetheart, Kyrie, Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man and the original Washin’ Week Blues (inspired by Deb’s dad) showed how much confidence and ability has grown over the last 2 years. An impromptu rendition of Walkin’ My Baby Back Home by Rod’s Sacred Heart College teenagers had the audience clapping and yelling for more. We gained several new members that night. Welcome Aboard!
Born To Sing-Makes A Difference
August 20th, 2009 by Deb Saville
A few Born To Sing-ers have been reflecting about what makes Born To Sing a choir with a difference - we brainstormed the following list…

- the clear vision of the co-founders to Make A Difference
- No auditions – and a fantastic sound from a bunch of largely ‘non-singers’
- The lurve and energy in the room every Wednesday night
- The welcome with open arms to new members
- the AMAZING soul of Martin Meader as Musical Director
- the passion of ‘el diablo’ – otherwise known as Rod Christian – arranger extra-ordinaire
- the very talented Perry Joyce and his teaching gems that have now become known as ‘Perry-isms’
- the largest number of people on the books for a Perth based choir
- the HUGE concerts that have been co-ordinated and managed by the Business Team…including a 1,000 ticket sell out at Winthrop Hall and a Bush Fire Survivor’s concert
- The willingness of singers to ‘Be The Best’ and their support on an on-going basis
- The FUN!
- The opportunity to record our own CDs and feel famous for longer than 15 minutes
Thank you for the music!
