Born To Sing ‘Flash Mobs’ Christmas Lunch in the Park!

Born to Sing was the ’surprise’ at the Mission Australia’s Christmas lunch in the park. This is the biggest event Australia-wide and is for those who feel isolated and/or disadvantaged at this time of year and 80 of our singers volunteered their time on Christmas Day to uplift everyone’s spirits. We hoped that Born to Sing being involved would Make A Difference not only to the audience of 2,000 people but to our singers. Many said after the event that they felt so grateful to be a part of such a great ‘community’ experience. Sandra Wilson of Mission Australia was very impressed with our commitment and willingness to be a part of the day.

Are You Ready for this Thought Provoking Movie? And to Make A Difference for our Indigenous Australians?

Deb and Linz have been to Darwin coaching a group of Indigenous Leaders and their final trip is at the end of July. They went to a theatre production to learn about Aboriginal perspectives on the Australian justice system…and have also been introduced to some very confronting politics in the Northern Territory.

Two filmakers have captured the issues and released the the story of ‘Our Generation’. Deb and Linz have been so touched (and enlightened) by this movie and their experiences meeting the people affetcted by the NY policies, that they are organising a Community Screening. “Our belief is that every Australian should see this movie – to raise awareness of the issues affecting Indigenous Australians….and of course, by coming to support this screening part proceeds will be donated to help Indigenous causes.

Deb is negotiating with the City of Vincent and Hale School about showing the movie….Watch this space!

Indigenous Leaders – Deb Heads off to Darwin

Deb is busily preparing for a Coaching Journey into the Dreamtime!

She has been offered a contract to assist a group of Aboriginal Leaders participate in an innovative program resulting in Cert IV in Indigenous Mentoring. It is the only training of its kind in Australia at the moment and is assessed through story-telling, art and observation.

The course is a joint initiative of The Tribal Warrior Association and Margaret Barnes and supported by Shaun Fowler at Ironbark

Deb’s main role is to coach each person over a 3-month period to help participants to embed their training experience, gain clarity and assist them to reflect on how to be a more powerful Mentor and Make A (Bigger) Difference in their own lives, their workplaces and their communities. A BIG thanks to Sandra Groom for her belief in Deb’s abilities…..and to Lindsay Breach who is supporting Deb throughout the program in whatever way he can to Make A Difference. Living the Vision!

Born To Sing Loves Across The Land…with Success!

Our generous singers practiced, sold tickets, baked cakes and rehearsed some more.

They performed to a packed audience in the Quadrangle of Applecross Senior High School.

They sold their cakes. And we had two VIP guest speakers, one lady who had been evacuated during the fires…and another who was volunteering with Roleystone Bush Fire Service at the time….their stories touched everyone’s hearts…and pockets. People donated very generously to our worthy cause.

All our efforts were rewarded when we were able to present a cheque to the Mayor of Melville for $14,767 to help those affected by the recent bush fires in Perth.

We also collected $ 5,000 worth of household goods and delivered two trucks full of items to help one family turn their rented house into a home.

Born to Sing certainly lives up to its vision of Making A Difference!

Love Across The Land – 1st Time on radio!

We are very proud of our Born To Sing members who went onto ABC radio last Saturday….to perform the original ‘Love Across The Land’ which was written by Lesley Adams from our Rockingham group.

After performing two successful Christmas Concerts with a rockin’ repetoire choirs from Rockingham, North Perth and Fremantle partied til midnight. Singers could be found exploring Rockingham the next day, relaxing at beaches and Gwen set to become a Bikie’s Moll and roar round Rockingham on the back of a Harley – well in her dreams, anyway! The Under Repair photo is closer to the truth these days.
